2009 in Review
All in all, 2009 was a remarkable year. Other outfits have already compiled their Best of Decade lists but personally I think it’s a bit premature for that — give it some distance, fellas.
Still, it’s pretty safe to say that 2009 was a banner one, and my suspicion is that it will end up being one of my all-time favorites — warts and all. To commemorate, here’s a list of some of my favorite things from 2009:
Mad Men, The Great Gatsby (read twice), Startup School, Paul Graham, Paul Buchheit, Mark Pincus, my iPhone 3GS, my XBox 360, my Canon S90, XBox Live, Modern Warfare 2, Posterous, Amazon, Hulu, Smart.fm, Brizzly, Foursquare, Stanza, Tweetie, Snow Leopard, any banh mi served by anyone anywhere, $5 foot longs, Nick’s Pizza, Turtle Tower, Din Tai Fung restaurant in Taipei, Wang Steak House in Taipei, the Blanc et Noir cafe in Tokyo, Mission Creek Cafe, the first 10 minutes of The Watchmen movie, the first 10 minutes of Up, the first 10 minutes of Star Trek , Studio 60, Before Sunset, Lorrie Moore, Calistoga sparkling water, The Inglourious Basterds, 808s and Heartbreak, Season 1 of Gossip Girl, Season 1 of Friday Night Lights, DVR, Phillz Coffee, Four Barrel Coffee, yerba mate, staying up late into the night in an empty room working on a spec script, the Hotel del Coronado, the Kobe and LeBron puppets, the 4-Hour Workweek, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, The Sound of Young America, Chad and Emily’s wedding ceremony, The Man With No Name trilogy, that crazy Bulls-Celtics playoff series, Jim Harbaugh, Toby Gerhart, Johnnie Knox, any pass that Jay Cutler completed to a member of his own team, Star Trek: The Next Generation reruns, my unibody MacBook Pro for work, my Timbuk2 messenger bag, Coraline, pizza and zombie movie nights with Ben, whiskeys with Liz, WonderCon with Nicole, the streets of Chicago with Scott, Fallen Angels with Felicia, analyzing football plays with See Yew, drinks with Cathy, sushi with Young, Tokyo sushi with Felicia, the 48 Hour Film Project with the Chikinbone crew, The Midweek Drinking Club, the Something Night Book Club, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kristen Wiig, the Zynga cafe, the Campbell house, the Campbell crew, the music of The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Time magazine, Steve Martin’s Born Standing Up
